Rusty grew up side by side with his father and grandfather as they worked the family farm in Aurora, Utah. After high school he attended Snow College where he played baseball and then served a religious mission in San Antonio, Texas.
He received a Bachelor's degree in exercise science from Utah State University and followed that with a Master's degree in physical therapy from the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moine, Iowa.
After practicing physical therapy for 2 years, he took advantage of an opportunity to be a part of Redmond Minerals where he now serves as president. For the past five years Redmond has been named as one of Utah's top ten businesses to work for, and he considers being a part of the Redmond team a great privilege. He received a MBA from the University of Utah in 2003.
Rusty lives with his wife Becky and their four children on three acres of yard, garden and plenty of " family weeding fun" in Central Valley, Utah.
