About GWC Distance Studies

The George Wythe College Distance Studies Program is specifically designed to closely mirror the on-campus experience. Both the full-time and part-time Distance programs run on the semester system, meaning that each semester is 4 months in duration. Following is a brief description of the benefits provided to both part and full-time students.

Part-time students receive:

  • An assigned mentor who calls monthly for a 30 minute (approximate) telephone meeting.
  • Discussion and tutoring on specific courses, assignments, and papers.
  • A supportive mentoring structure involving the making and keeping of commitments, facilitating faster completion and higher quality work.
  • Monthly Colloquia options, where class-level students meet together via a conference call to discuss a pre-determined text or subject.
  • Students may enroll in any one class and earn up to five credits.

Full-time students receive:

  • An assigned mentor who calls bi-weekly for a 30 minute (approximate) telephone meeting.
  • Discussion and tutoring on specific courses, assignments, and papers.
  • A supportive mentoring structure involving the making and keeping of commitments, facilitating faster completion and higher quality work.
  • Monthly Colloquia options, where class-level students meet together via a conference call to discuss a pre-determined text or subject.
  • Monthly lecture by On-Campus faculty via a conference call.
  • Students may enroll in unlimited Distance Studies classes and earn up to sixteen credits.
